As a young lad I spent every available minute out of school time either sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, snowboarding and climbing up anything that stayed still long enough (both trees and mountains), mainly around the UK and French Alps.

Leaving school at 16 I was extremely fortunate to land my dream job as windsurfing and dinghy sailing instructor at West Kirby marine lake. I was put through my w/s inst’ qualification at Plas Menai and enjoyed 2x years teaching at W/K.  This soon led to a new job at Sail + Ski in Chester as shop manager and ski technician for a further 2x years.  Time to spread my wings and it was off to Val Di Sere France for a winter season as a full time and now qualified ski tech’ in the work shop at “Top Ski”.  A brief stint out on the roads back in the uk followed as a sales rep selling Swiss snowboards and accessories.

The sun and sea soon called and it was a long drive to Fuerteventura to work at Flag Beach W/S Center for a season.  Back home briefly to Sail and Ski and then came an Atlantic crossing as delivery crew sailing a luxury yacht from Majorca to Antigua for its owner. (3x weeks at sea).  A full season as W/S inst’ on Antigua followed then back across the pond returning the above yacht back to Palma. (Another 3x weeks at sea).  Then came months Working on board several luxury yachts (including Guccis’) in Palmas commercial harbour. This taught me a lot in regards essential maintenance etc.

Back home for a holiday and I met and fell in love with Claire (my soon to be wife) and it was time to settle down. Kai (our first son) was soon on the way and after working for another gardening company I decided to set up on my own.  A couple of home made business cards in post office windows later and in 1996 Rich Fagan Garden Services was born and up and away, concentrating on basic domestic and commercial garden and grounds maintenance.  We soon had 2x full time teams out and about around Chester and the Wirral.  It wasn’t long before we were being asked to carry out more specialist tasks ie…tree pruning and felling, turf laying, planting out, fence work etc etc.

Embracing these new challenges and enjoying the variety of this type of work Rich steered the business fully in this new direction (circa 2005) re branding the company as…….
Rich Fagan Tree Surgery and Landscaping.  This now meant becoming properly trained up and Rich attended Llys Fasi College and after 2x years of study attained the Royal Forestry Society’s Certificate in Arboriculture along with several essential City and Guilds certificates.  Now a proper tree surgeon unlike many out there!

Fast forward 10 years and with work continueing apace, Kai and brothers Brady and Conor (having helped out on and off for several years already) also quickly gained their tree felling and climbing certificates with flying colours and attaining glowing references from their instructors and examiners.  23 years on and Rich Fagan+Sons have now completed hundreds of landscaping projects and thousands of tree jobs from small pruning work to large and technical dismantles that other companies would not touch due to their difficultly.  We have many repeat/regular clients and receive most of our new work via recommendations.

This is due to our friendly and professional approach, our fixed price quoting and warrantied workmanship.  Rich personally carries out all site visits and quotes whilst Claire takes care of the growing administration side. Brady is currently our full time climber with seasonal assistance from Kai and Conor.
